PRESS ASSISTANT

Summary of Duties – Responsible for packaging printed products produced on a printing press.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Good eye hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to use small hand tools and finishing equipment.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail in the preparation and proofing of various documents and correspondence.
  • Moderate mechanical aptitude – Some troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to define problems and resolve them quickly.
  • Moderate mathematical skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure including metrics, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to use a variety of handheld measuring devices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – Must be a self-starter who is team oriented, dependable and cooperative.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills – Ability to read, interpret and apply instructions and procedures contained in documents such as procedure manuals, job jackets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and a variety of technical manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondences.
  • Ability to communicate well with supervisors and associates.
  • Good reasoning ability – ability to understand and implement instructions furnished and written, verbal, or diagram form.
  • Ability to recognize and work through problems created by variables to standardized procedures.
  • Ability to think independently and exercise good judgment.
  • Moderate organizational skills – ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines to ensure on-time delivery schedules are met.
  • Ability to work under pressure while handling multiple tasks with tight timelines.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to distinguish between colors.
  • Responsible for all packages of printed material produced on the assigned press.
  • Must be willing to work at a reasonable pace to keep up with the product being delivered.
  • Review complete job jacket regarding specific bindery requirements and act accordingly.
  • Review printed orders to make sure that they correspond to job jackets and are packed correctly.
  • Carefully review printed product for quality and defects and report such to Pressman.
  • Review labels and shipping instructions for accuracy and deliver finished product to assigned areas..

Working Conditions:

Fast-paced production environment with exposure to dust, noise, moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The employee must be able to stand up to 10 hours per shift and frequently lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Compensation/Benefits:

  • Pay based on experience
  • Health Insurance – employer pays 100% of premium for employee for high deductible ($1,500 individual) plan. Dental Insurance – employer pays 45% of premium for employee
  • Holiday – seven (8) holidays observed – New Year, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Friday after, Christmas Day

BINDERY SUPPORT

Summary of Duties – Responsible for packaging printed products produced on a printing press.

Skills/Qualifications

Summary of Responsibilities:

Responsible for operation of Rewinder that winds paper from one roll to another to form compact rolls of specified footage or diameter prior to cutting.

  • Responsible for all packaging of printed material produced on the assigned press. Must be willing to work at a reasonable pace to keep up with the product being delivered.
  • Review complete job jacket regarding specific bindery requirements and act accordingly.
  • Review printed orders to make sure that they correspond to job jackets and are packed correctly.
  • Carefully review printed product for quality and defects and report such to pressman.
  • Review labels and shipping instructions for accuracy and deliver finished product to assigned areas.
  • Pull supplies as requested by pressman.
  • Responsible for daily, weekly and monthly maintenance of equipment.

PRESS OPERATOR

Summary of Duties – Responsible for the operation of Flexo printing presses to produce high quality printed products for on-time delivery.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Moderate knowledge and proven ability to efficiently operate and maintain Flexo printing presses, monitor for quality control and make required repairs.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail in the preparation and proofing of various documents and correspondence.
  • Moderate mechanical aptitude – Above average troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Ability to define problems and resolve them quickly.
  • Moderate mathematical skills – Ability to use a variety of handheld measuring devices; Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure including metrics, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Responsible for operation of Rewinder that winds paper from one roll to another to form compact rolls of specified footage or diameter prior to cutting.

  • Carefully review copy and plates to ensure they correspond to the job jacket. Report and correct any discrepancies or errors to management.
  • Monitor and periodically inspect print quality, color, registration, numbering sequence, and product defects and make adjustments to rectify errors or problems.
  • Collect required retains at each press stop for inspection.
  • Responsible for minimizing waste at all times in the production cycle.
  • Maintain accurate Job Accountability Sheet of number resets and other flags as required; Collect specified samples per job requirements.
